The Department of Communication, Media, and Culture of Panteion University, the first of its kind to be established at tertiary level in Greece, has been in operation since 1990.

The Department’s mission is: to explore the phenomenon of communication at a theoretical, historical and empirical level; to educate executives for the public services, public relations, and press offices of the public and private sector; to instruct and train journalists and qualified staff for the press and for digital media as well as for all forms of communication and information.

Panteion University is located on Syngrou Avenue, Kallithea, close to the centre of Athens. The privately-owned facilities encompass three buildings, constructed at different eras, and beautiful gardens, making up a quaint campus. The oldest building is the administration building, which houses the rectorate, the administrative services, the library, the department secretariats and the events hall, where graduation ceremonies and other official events take place. The second oldest building is the so-called “glass building” or Stasinopoulos wing, which houses classrooms, labs and professors’ offices, mainly for the Departments of Public Administration, and International, European and Area Studies. The newest building, also known as the “new building” or the “seven-storey building”, houses professors’ offices from all Panteion departments, classrooms, labs and large auditoriums for lectures or conferences.

Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences is a public university that conducts research and offers courses and degrees in a wide range of scientific fields in the areas of social and political theory, such as international and European studies, science and media, sociology, social anthropology, psychology, political science, history, social policy, public administration, and economic and regional development.

Through its long and distinguished history of teaching, research, public service, and social contribution, the University has shaped the development and the dissemination of the relevant scientific fields in Greece. Panteion aims to operate as a hub for producing and transmitting new knowledge. Its teaching and research staff stand out for their research -aimed at excellence and addressing sociopolitical challenges- and public presence in Greece and abroad.

The main priority of the study programmes of all levels is to promote the active, substantial, responsible and creative participation of students in the educational process and the academic community, along with open seminars, lectures, open discussions, scientific conferences and other cultural activities organised by the Panteion Departments and research units. By continuously updating the study programmes, as well as upgrading the digital infrastructure and services, and making the most of modern information and communications technology, Panteion University’s perennial vision has been to establish a modern and robust academic environment.

Panteion University is the Greek university dedicated to social and political sciences and thus places emphasis on the promotion of interdisciplinarity, innovation and the development of critical thinking on social and political institutions, as well as social phenomena in Greece, the EU and globally.
